Bringing Things Into Focus

Bringing Things Into Focus

In marketing there's a concept of "niching down" which simply means to focus on one specific well-defined topic and creating content around that topic. One of the advantages of "niching down" is it forces you to focus on just one thing and eventually due to the focused research on that topic can eventually make you a subject matter expert or thought leader.

Problem is, if you're like me, you have many different things that you like and do research on and find it difficult to seek out more information on just one thing. We become a "Jack of all trades, master of none". The disadvantage of being in this state of mind is there is no focus, and when there is no focus there is hardly a clear direction in which we're heading so we become a "master of none" and never considered an expert in anything. If people are searching for answers to a questions regarding a specific topic they usually seek out expert advice, never the casual "jack of all trades" opinion.

Having said that, I've been testing out many "different hats" seeing which one topic I want to explore further, and I really can't decide! Rather than compromise I broke the blog up into five different categories and which ever gets shown the most love after six months or so will be the eventual path I'll go down. The categories (if you haven't seen them yet) are as follows:

  • Food & Travel - "Oh the places you'll go!" and the foods you eat along the way! Places I've been and things I've eaten will go under this category.

  • Photography & Videography - for tips and other discoveries to share as well as equipment reviews and recommendations.

  • Walt Disney World - This is my go-to vacation spot! I've been quite a few times and am always glad to share "Disney talk" with anyone! Let's share some magic!

  • Self-Help & Growth - sometimes a life event happens and teaches us a growth lesson. Here I'll share what I've experienced in hopes it helps you as well.

  • Branding - Marketing is what I find fascinating, especially customer interaction/impressions of a company, and this category will point out the best/worst things companies do regarding strengthening their relationships to the customer-their branding.

There's a little more "focus" with my blog going forward and I hope you appreciate it. If there's anything you would recommend I cover that I haven't, or change what I've already done then drop me a line - I really appreciate it.

Thanks for taking the time to read about "focus" and my rebranding and my wish is for this to grow into a thriving community to share and grow information so we can all be better versions of ourselves.

Cheers,

-John
