GIVEN TO FLY.

Updated: Apr 28, 2023

"He got up outta there ran for hundreds of miles... A wave came crashing like a fist to the jaw Delivered him wings "hey look at me now" Arms wide open with the sea as his floor... He's flying Whole, high wide...He floated back down 'cause he wanted to share" -Pearl Jam

Coincidences.

This Pearl Jam song came on the other night as I looked longingly at the new drone, funny enough, wishing I could test fly it. Since it was late at night, the maiden voyage would have to wait till the morning. But I couldn't help but think how coincidental this song came on as I was thinking about flying the drone...

Turns out (according to Website Pearl Jam fandom), "The song is well known as a meaning of freedom...a short story of a protagonist who felt trapped...Finally he felt freedom...his salvation was escaping,...That feeling was so impressive that the protagonist wanted to spread this sensation throughout the world, sharing that experience...". Pretty Deep.

Diving and Digging Deeper.

On the surface, I feel that whatever holds our immediate interest will be perceived more often because it’s still fresh on our minds. We seem to notice these things more because they have more relevance to us at that time! But what happens when something just resonates on a deeper, possibly subconscious level (that which we are not fully aware of)? Take the Pearl Jam song ”Given to Fly” and it’s relationship to wanting to actually fly a drone. It’s easy to see the connection. If we dig deeper, we discover the song is about someone wanting to be free from something that is perceived to be trapping him, and when he feels elation after finally gaining that freedom he wants to share it. This message hit home a lot harder than I expected. Could this song, especially the lyrics, could it have been addressing something on a subconscious level? I feel it was, and it has.

Think back to when something just hit in a not so obvious way. Could it have been speaking to a problem or desire that was simmering in your subconscious? Was it bringing to light what it was you were truly feeling at that time? I personally have listened to outside noise as far as I can remember, relying on other people to tell me what should and should not be, effectively quietening my inner voice, my intuition. I feel I am not alone.

The takeaway is to start listening to ourselves more. No body else knows us like we know ourselves. We trust that what we do will be in our own best interests and benefits. Trust your gut feelings.

Our intuitions are like muscles and can be strengthened if we allow ourselves to trust and listen to them more. Once we make this a daily part of living, I feel our lives will change for the better!

If this is something you are already doing, please let me know how it’s changed your life, or if it’s something you’ve just doing, have you noticed a change? Please leave a comment or send a direct message! I hope this helps and look forward to hearing from you!
