Liberation and Happiness.

veritas liberabit vos

Sunset captured while driving home at night
The Sun says goodnight.

It was the design of the can that caught my eye. Banded Brewing Company's Veridian IPA called me to try it thanks to the forest and fire scene on the can. While drinking the beer it then became all about the name of the beer that got me wondering...what the hell does Veridian mean? If we believe Google's all-knowing and ever-present knowledge, Veridian is combination of Verdant (meaning "green") and Veritas (meaning "truth").

How was it? Tasty, crisp and clean, and am glad I had it, but I don't personally think this would be in a heavy rotation from my fridge. It did, however, get me thinking about pursuing more happiness, because at this point in the evening, I was feeling pretty darn good and happy, and wanted more.

veritas vitæ magistra

"Truth is the teacher of life." And happiness is the ultimate meaning to life! If we think about it, it makes sense. We seem to have the best life experiences when we are happy. Remember that road trip with the roof open or top down and sun shine warming up your face? Did you feel that breeze blow though your hair, leaving a little tickle that reminded you that yes indeed you were going places? Can you hear the song you were singing at the top of your lungs with your travel partners and when all these elements were put together life just seemed perfect? Yep. I can too, and I have come to the realization that events like these were pure and special. Nothing else in the world mattered. There were no thoughts of other people driving by passing judgment about our singing or other perceived consequences of being on the road doing whatever we were doing or going.

The best life experience happened in that moment, free of any attachment to past or future. And this is my personal secret to happiness, to which I offer to you.

Think about the times you felt sad or unloved or any other emotion outside of happiness. What was the cause? I’ve seen news reports of stock brokers going crazy because of drops in the stock market. I’ve seen people become depressed because hey felt they were not getting love from another person or group. But if we go deep and analyze whats going on, we can see in each case there’s a sense of attachment. Stock brokers attached to money and infatuated people attached to the love they think they‘ll get from another. It may work out and they’ll experience happiness, but it may nit last.

True Happiness comes from the present moment and it comes from within, without attachment to anything else.

Its enlightening to come to the realization that we can only control what we can control and to live in the moment. There really is no time like the present and when we pursue what we truly want to do in the moment, we will experience a deeper sense of satisfaction and more happiness in our lives.
