I've been going through a lot of photos recently for a Christmas gift project for my father and have been rediscovering moments I had forgotten. Moments where photography seemed effortless and inspiration was just around the corner.
Lately I hadn't felt that spark like I once did and it had been a long while since a photographic outing lit me up. I've been struggling to be motivated to go out and capture images because the feeling just wasn't there. I was uninspired...until looking at these old images brought the spark back.
There are so many emotions and attachments to the pictures we create and we don't realize this until many months later when we come across those long forgotten images.
A simple picture of a Christmas ornament hanging from an evergree reminded me of a walk around town on a brisk December night, going from bar to bar with great friends. We were all photography enthusiasts and decided to just go out, socialize and, yes, snap a shot or two.
We wound up with quite a few photos and many more memories that have lasted a lifetime. Besides reawakening the long forgotten memories of yesteryear, it also rekindled the feeling I had when I went out with friends and we challenged ourselves to create those images. It relit the passion and has gotten the creative juices flowing again.
With this in mind I approached a co-worker and we discussed at length of doing something we are passionate about and how it can help us focus on something where it can fill our thoughts and actions until there's no room for boredom or depression.
It can even lead us down a path of research and learning that before we know it we become subject matter experts in that one thing!
I am thankful for this exercise and project I'm involved with as it has helped rekindle the passion and has given me focus once again. I hope such a miracle can touch and bless you this holiday season and give you a sense of joy and warmth that can be shared with the rest of the world.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Everyone!
