Where has the time gone?! It feels like forever since I had a decent thought rattling around in my head that I wanted to share, and immediately I had a million and one excuses why I hadn’t done so. “It’s been so busy at work!” “So much school work!” “I don’t have any content!” All are constant distractions, but ultimately it was something inside that kept me from putting something out there, something de-motivating me.
Here is where I have been struggling lately and have been looking for remedies and solutions for ways to being this joy back. I’ve found quite a bit on motivation and other lessons in human psychology that, while I’ve only just started using these techniques and don’t expect immediate results, I trust the process. I hope to inspire others who are feeling the same way to be able to climb out of their unmotivated state and getting back to doing what they love By sharing what I’ve found.
A few years ago, writer Eric Barker started his article in Time with this question:“You make goals… but then you procrastinate.
You write a to-do list… but then you don’t follow through.
And this happens again and again and again. Seriously, what’s the problem?”
If you were to point to an earlier post of mine regarding disinterest being the culprit, you would have been thinking like I was. But here’s the difference…this lack of motivation or “interest” involves something we used to enjoy doing and now we can’t be bothered with it?! Has interest been lost?! Was that hobby just a fad?! Say it ain’t so! Well ok. I’m saying maybe it ain’t so. It turns out emotion, especially negative emotion may be the culprit, and this may be caused by the environment you spend the most time in.
One of the mindsets some of the most highly motivated people possess is the ability to remain optimistic in almost all situations faced, and if your environment is filled with negativity, sometimes staying positive and optimistic can be a hard thing. So how do we change our environment?
Probably the best way is to try and discover what is causing the most distress and either change how that thing or event is causing you distress or try to approach it from a different, more optimistic angle. Sometimes its a mis-perception of things or events that give us a less than positive environment and constantly puts us in a state of stress or negativity. Surround yourself with positive people and activities that make you happy. Nothing like having things around you that you can't wait to do or people you can't wait to see.
I hope this helps you in your quest to feel in control of your life and to make it the best life possible. All comments and helpful tips are welcome and remember, you are not alone on this journey. I'm on the same journey and can't wait to share what's working for me and can't wait to learn from you!
