The State Of Travel (Disney Style!)

Updated: Apr 28, 2023

With recent events and a semi-state of panic regarding Coronavirus/Covid 19, people are anxious to get out and visit places again. No one likes to be told they can't do something, but that's exactly what's happening regarding travelling: People are asked not to travel to minimize the spread of this disease. Stay put, and don't go unless you have to.

I think it's safe to say that mental health and doing what we can to stay somewhat sane is a darn good reason to travel if you ask me, and one of the places I love to go every year is the Walt Disney World Resort in beautiful Orlando, Florida.

I was a little disappointed when the parks were shut down earlier this year due to the pandemic, but was thankful when they reopened for business and making memories once again. I, like many others I'm sure, was a little skeptical of how safe going to a theme park would be, but curiosity got the better of me and had to experience these new safety precautions first hand. After all, who better than Disney to make sure the experience is magical, yet safe at the same time? And trust me, there ain't no one better!

*BUS & AIRLINE TRAVEL*

Starting out from New Hampshire, there isn't any more comfortable way to get to an airport than by C&J Trailways Coaches. Roomy seats, free wifi, what's not to love? And with socially distanced seating, safety wasn't an issue. Riders were staggered and spaced generously. The airline (Thank you JetBlue!) was no different. Those seating in the last rows boarded first and were the last to exit the plane on arrival. Both modes of transportation smelled like a hospital-they were that clean! And of course face coverings are worn at all times (even on the airplane, unless you're snacking or drinking).

*DISNEY STYLE!*

As stated earlier, no one takes family safety and fun more seriously than Disney, and this was no exception. On arrival at the airport, magical express was present but in a limited capacity. For those that aren't aware of Disney's Magical Express, it's free bus transportation to and from Orlando International Airport for Disney Hotel guests to their resorts. Before Covid19, Magical Express would collect your bags from the luggage carousel and drop them off inside your hotel room a few hours after you land. Now, the transportation will carry guests to the resort hotel, but it's up to the guests to claim their own luggage.

Upon Magical Express Check-In, guests are assigned a bus seat (versus picking out your own), and are then transported to the resort. Another mode of transportation available to resort guests is the free bus transportation to and from resort hotels, theme parks and the Disney Springs shopping area. Besides the hotel gift shop/restaurants, (and everyone wearing face coverings at all times), this is probably the first sign of Disney pandemic safety measures a guest will encounter.

Travel parties check in with the bus driver, are assigned a "section number" and pick a seat in that section (Buses have either five or six sections per bus with multiple seats in each section). All members of a party will be sitting in their section and the sections are partitioned off from each other. I'm pretty sure the busses are sanitized after each route is completed as they too smelled like a hospital.
