"You're Lazy 'Cause You're Disinterested"-Gary Vaynerchuk

Updated: Apr 28, 2023

Have you ever had those days where the only thing you want to do is stay in bed and let the world pass you by, and soak in all the lazy vibes you can? I've had a streak of days where I've felt the same and didn't stop to think about why I felt this way until a Gary Vaynerchuk video caught my attention-especially this quote about laziness.

This statement prompted me to analyze the times where I felt unmotivated to do anything and embodied the definition of laziness. I came to the conclusion that most of the times I was feeling lazy was due to being disinterested and disengaged.

Laziness, according to the Oxford dictionary, is "the quality of being unwilling to work or use energy" and coincidently describes the feeling someone gets when they realize what they're doing doesn't contribute to something that's valued personally. It can be a feeling that whatever it is that's being done isn't contributing to bettering society, not satisfying personal needs, or you personally don't see any importance in the activity.

All of these perceptions equal what Vaynerchuk stated, which is disinterest. And when we're disinterested, we're no longer vested into what is being done and no longer want to be an active participant in those activities.

So the lesson here is to take inventory of what we are really interested in and are willing to invest our precious time and resources into. What are we willing to sacrifice our free time and in some cases our hard earned money into, and will this provide us satisfaction and happiness we deserve in our lives?

Once we have our "YES!" to those questions, then we can go forward with confidence and knowledge that what we do next will be in our own best interests, and with this investment of ourselves, we will put forth the effort. We are only lazy/ inactive in things that don't resonate with us. Knowledge is power, and the more we know about ourselves, the more power we have over our lives.

And self knowledge is growth and brings us one step closer to becoming the people we hope and know we can be. Love the journey!
